So What? Who Cares?

In the chapter, “Extra Lives”, by Tom Bissell, he explains his addiction to playing video games and how he has gone to many destinations and continues to play them. He wakes up at 8 am every morning and starts by playing video games and does this until 5 pm. Bissell continues to explain this duration of his life and then continues to elaborate on it by saying how his earlier life was. However, Bissell does not explain the purpose or reason to why he tells his readers this information. While reading, I kept thinking, “So what?” or “Who cares?” I was confused to the what the purpose of this chapter was and why the author wrote it. It makes a huge different whether the author explains the purpose of his/her writing. It gives the readers a better understanding of the author’s thinking and strategies behind his writing. Some of the strategies I would use from his writing is how he compares of the places he has traveled and how he continued to play video games in each. I would recommend to this author maybe to use real world examples or example why we should care about this. I would be interested in reading more of the chapter and other chapters in this story to understand the author’s reasoning better.
