The simplicity of having a device at your fingertips that can answer a question in seconds is something new to our technological world. Siri has provided users with extensive information on any topic just by asking a question. Siri has evolved and even formed a sense of humor in it’s responses. This to me is quite disturbing, a artificial computer that has a personality doesn’t seem right to me. In “To Siri, With Love”I learned another aspect of Siri and the relationship that a child with down syndrome can have with an artificial computer system. Because of the obsessions that children with down syndrome have, Siri makes it easy to ask many questions and receive answers immediately. Judith Newman the author of “To Siri, With Love” and mother of an autistic child says “Now, when my head was about to explode if I had to have another conversation about the chance of tornadoes in Kansas City, Mo., I could reply brightly: “Hey! Why don’t you ask Siri?””. In this environment where an autistic child is constantly wanting information Siri can be used as a great tool and even a break for the parents. Siri is also enforcing good etiquette and pronunciation, making the child speak properly to get the answers they are looking for. In “Silicon Valley Is Turning Into Its Own Worst Fear” the worry that this explosion of technology is going to ultimately take over the world is happening now. Big business companies are trying to take on all the market and get rid of their competition. This uproar in technology is providing children with autism great tools but how necessary is it for people in their day to day lives? Technology is easily taking over our lives and keeping us engulfed in a virtual world that hinders our experiences in the real world.
