Never let ’em see you sweat. I’m sure you’ve heard that one. Don’t back down from anyone — another prevelant American mindset — we don’t want to appear weak. If people only knew. Ever had that thought? We all have aspects of ourselves we’re not proud of.

Authenticity. In the antique world, authentic = original. We value the authenticity of an antique; shouldn’t we appreciate the same in people?

I think most of us do, but at the same time we hide parts of ourselves that we don’t deem appropriate or appealing.

“Authenticity is the daily practice of letting go of who we think we’re supposed to be and embracing who we are.” Brene Brown

All of us want to be seen and heard, and we want to connect with others on a deep emotional level. Yet we feel things in our hearts and still keep our mouths shut. Fear of rejection? Fear of being too sensitive? Too much?

Many of us question what we’re doing; whether anyone cares. But if we feel things deeply, at the level of our souls, it’s a message to keep going — push through the fear. Each person who shows themselves fully gives permission for the next.

We are more alike than different. We are completely connected, interwoven, though we can’t see it on the daily. Our separateness is a product of the ego — the farthest place from spirit we can get.

“The authentic self is the soul made visible.” Sarah Ban Breathnach

Authenticity is about being who we are at the level of our souls. If we are shaking in our boots, it probably means we should do it anyway.

Be you, no matter what anyone else thinks. Show the world your soul. Stand in your power and smile. Open your heart to others regardless of their return. Love harder than you thought you could. Your authentic self is the most beautiful part of you, the most beautiful part of each of us. The world needs us — all of us. Collectively we heal.
