A recent study by The Society of Human Resources revealed that the average HR department in the UK spends roughly 36 days recruiting for one open position within their organisation. The challenge businesses face in today’s world is finding qualified candidates for the role and the overwhelming increase in CV’s that companies receive per job opening.

The time spent by an average HR department to screen all applicants was around 5 days along with another 5 days of checking their references and around 4 days testing their chosen candidates skills.

Time management is one of the most crucial factors for success in business regardless of who you are and what you do. We fail to appreciate that time is one of the most important resources and little is being done to make better use of everyone’s most limited asset.

With the evolution of business comes the evolution of business technology that can help all departments make the best and most productive use of their time. We all now have programmes that help plan employee daily work schedules to improve productivity by giving a lot of structure and freedom to work better. We also have technology to make communication across the company a lot easier.

We have increased the use of the cloud to transfer data and a reduction of office supplies and labour costs by printing less often. More of this being transferred to an online aspect has also improved the security and safety of information by using encrypted passwords when accessing files and with the ability to access it all from one location improves time management significantly.

We know that time is limited and the most successful companies are those who choose how to use their time the most efficiently and effectively. Practising good time management allows for us to keep the momentum in a business moving and when all the parts are moving correctly, a lot more is achieved in the space of time you have been given.

We also know that you make better decisions and reduce stress when you’re not under the pressure of time, by managing it correctly. This creates a discipline in the workforce and creates a positive cycle of accomplishing more, having more free time, reducing stress, producing higher quality work which in turn equals more success.

A department that needs help in increasing efficiency is the Human Resources department. We know it’s one of the most important aspects of any company, looking after the people. However, lots of tasks are still very manual jobs that require a lot of patience and time to accomplish what they need to, for example revising job applications or background screening.
