Lenny.fm — How Fans Can Support Their Favorite Indie Podcasters

Courtney Carthy of Nearly Media had years of experience in podcasting in Australia before he had the revelation that led to lenny.fm. He shared that moment on Podcasting Tech with Mathew Passy on the January 21st episode.

Courtney explained to Mathew: “In 2017, a friend and I started a podcast production company, focusing initially on branded podcasts. We had 15 original shows and 20 branded (paid for) podcasts, and three years later, we ended up with three podcasts with a combined 2.5 million downloads, which is excellent for the smaller Australian market.”

“We still needed to monetize, and Patreon came along, but that was a lot of extra work,” Courtney added.

“In 2020, a friend and I began the concept for this business, which turned out to be Lenny.fm,” Courtney said.

Here’s their marketing pitch: “Your podcasts walk with you, talk with you, show up for you in the podcast app — they do the show for you.”
