The Million Dollar Homepage (TMDH) was built in 2005 by Alex Tew, a 21-year-old student who sold a million pixels on the webpage for $1/pixel. The website earned over $1 million within 5 months!

The Button is a new take on The Million Dollar Homepage. It combines the ingenuity and simplicity of TMDH and offers a quirky advertising tool in a new avatar. It is a website where the button displayed can be bought by outbidding the current price and linked to a URL. Earning $450+ within 24 hours of its launch, it is the modern internet’s The Million Dollar Homepage. Its creators Stefan Gergely and Andrei Nedelcu conceived the idea while sipping coffee on a weekend and finished the website in the same weekend. Their past experience with product design, coding and entrepreneurship helped them execute the idea super fast.

“After we came up with the idea at Starbucks, we moved to a different table which had a socket, took our laptops out, one of us started designing the button UI (me) and my co-founder (Andrei Nedelcu) began coding the webpage.”

The Button is currently a side-project but its founders believe that the idea stands firmly on its feet as a business case. “It’s simple to understand, very easy to use, highly "viralable" and useful” says Stefan. Stefan and Andrei launched The Button on Reddit and Product Hunt.

“One of the core things that we firmly believe make The Button successful is the simplicity of it. In this regard, we will be very careful in adding new features. I can definitely say we’ll be making it easier for people to share the button once they’ve acquired it. On top of this, who knows what the future might bring. We’ll definitely find a way to shake it up, that’s for sure”
