The bee population is decreasing dramatically. The consequence of dying bees impacts humans at the highest levels of our food chain. Human survival will be in danger because bees play the most significant role in producing the fruits and vegetables that we commonly take for granted.

Take a look at the video below and learn about the importance of bees in the pollination of flowers.

After hearing about the significant role of bees, let’s find out some ways that we can help the bee population grow and be healthy.

So what can you do to help bees?

  1. A viable and productive solution toward increasing the bee population is to implement programs that teach and train urban residents to become amateur beekeepers. Most of the big cities offer seminars about beekeeping either as a professional or as an amateur. Thus, today there are many local beekeepers whose efforts play a major role in the survival of bees.
  2. The care and maintenance of municipal gardens will enhance both bee habitats and bee health. But, every household could create a small garden, as well. It can be as easy as planting herbs, wildflowers, bushes and fruit trees in your garden. Herbs are great to have on your window sill. Rosemary, lavender, thyme and chives are great options that require little space and provide food for humans and bees.
  3. The interest in bees brings its sign of extinction to the light. A number of organizations promote a bee friendly behavior. Producers of raw, unblended local honey, are competing against mass-produced, commodity honey, which comes from many different places. The honey of mass-production is mixed with fragrances, oils, and enzymes. We have to support local producers. The price of honey may be a little higher, but they know how to maintain its quality without harming the bees.

Imagine that an animal as small and inconspicuous as a bee, could be our greatest ally in providing food, and approximately one-third of everything we eat is a direct result of their hard work. Don’t close your eyes to this dangerous situation. Help by planting flowers which are the source of life for the bees and for our positive mood!
