Here is a list of 5 books that I’ve read that I’ve found both motivating and practical to kick-start making stuff.

Let’s unlock some knowledge!

Spark for the Fire: How Youthful Thinking Unlocks Creativity by Ian Wharton

I’ve read it multiple times because it’s a short read and whenever I’m feeling creatively worn down it perks me up to start afresh. There’s also a really nice afterword by Jamie Oliver who has that insane drive to pursue bold new challenges.

A Curious Mind, by Brian Grazer

Brian is a movie producer in Hollywood and he got there by being ludicrously curious.

Creativity Inc, by Ed Catmull

Ed Catmull is the president of Pixar animation. It’s great book hearing his experience in fostering and harnessing creativity.

The Creators Code, by Amy Wilkinson

This book has more of an entrepreneurs attitude with lessons and life stories from people who have been successful creating things. A practical read.

Offscreen, a magazine by Kai Brach

Not a book, but for me it’s one of my favourite things to read when switching off from a long days work. It’s a quarter-yearly magazine that features creative entrepreneurs who are successful doing what they love, with stories about their journey and their lifestyle.

There are a ton more books out there that creators should read. If you have a particular book that helps you get inspired or has practical tips, let me know if the responses. I’d love to add it to the list!
