We headed to Walthamstow where Emma welcomed us into her warm home. We were immediately greeted by Holly, her “slightly poorly behaved” dog.

“I love living in Walthamstow. It reminds me of a small village.”

Emma specialises in line drawings, flat colours and patterns. She quit her job three years ago to be a full time artist. A choice she doesn’t regret.

“It was a hard decision financially because you just don’t know what’s gonna happen.”

She’s thankful for her husband, who helped support them both for the first few months. Emma told us that she also had some savings in her bank account before making this decision, and advises other budding artists to do the same.

“I recommend to all young illustrators to keep making work and save up a little bit of money before you start”.

Find out about her favourite project and more with our full interview below.
