This is a series of posts looking at killer combos’ and where you can find these various disciplines for your own project collaborations. This week we’re looking at musicians & technologists.

A unique combination, but it has been done with unpredictable and amazing outcomes. Digital artists covers a huge range of tech from installations, light manipulation, screen interaction and multi sensory performances. You can’t really pinpoint a medium for technological art because it’s so wonderfully mixed.

Meet Your Creator, Memo Atken

Here’s an example from an artist called Memo Akten. He’s collaborated with a wealth of creatives including composers to create this mesmerising performance, involving drones and beams of light.

Project by Memo Akten called Meet your Creator. More details here.

Generate, Eric Prydz.

Check out the centre piece light installation within the music video built by Gmunk.

Technologists and live performance go hand in hand. One such example is creating the visuals that run in parallel with band performances. I’d recommend going to UVA’s website to see their full portfolio as it is stunning and super inspiring!

Inspired? Here’s where you can find Technology artists:

  • Let’s Arduino: A Facebook group for digital enthusiast playing with Arduino’s, which is an electronic board capable of endless programming to interact with servos, sensors and lights.
  • Tech as Art: A resource for getting inspired as well as finding artists within the field.
  • Universities: A quick search into your local university might bring about courses related to digital art where students are breaking into the field. Tutors usually encourage collaboration so a quick email of your idea should entice a few students to get involved.

Need a music maker? Here’s where you can find Composers:

  • Composers: A Facebook group dedicated to composers.
  • Soundcloud: The place where most composers have uploaded their work. Problem is I find Soundcloud’s searching to be a bit difficult, but there are gems to be found.

We hope you’re inspired! Tune in next week for another epic combo.

Peace! ✌️
