This is a series of posts looking at killer combos’ and where you can find these various disciplines for your own project collaborations. This week we’re looking at Poets & Filmmakers.

There’s nothing quite like seeing poetry and film come together. It serves as a powerful vessel and strengthens the message carried in the poems words. These videos have been made with poems at their core, and the results are pretty stunning to sink into.

To This Day — Shane Koyczan

This is a pooooowerful video. It went a bit viral so it’s likely you’ve seen it but it’s a classic example of a talented poet collaborating with a talented group of filmmakers.

All the Way — Willem Martinot

The poem in this video is called Roll the Dice by Charles Bukowski. The short film features carefully curated shots to emphasise parts of the poem. If this doesn’t fire up that motivation engine I don’t know what will.

Television is a drug — Beth Fulton

This is an awesome example of typographic animation working alongside poetry. The rhythm in this is spot on.

Pale Blue Dot— Chin Li Zhi

Carl Sagan has been featured in many filmmaking projects due to his insightful and powerful recordings on his perspective on our world. This particular film gained popularity for being refreshingly original.

Hope this has kicked off some inspo for you. Here’s where you can find these corners of creativity.
