Epic Creator Combos — Writers & Illustrators
A series of posts taking a look at collaboration at its best
Collaborating with creators in different fields is an awesome way to re-ignite your work and come up with refreshing ideas. You get a new perspective from someone else’s window of creativity, and because of that, you end up creating something together that is totally unique.
Over the weeks we’ll be looking at killer combos’ out there and where you can find these various disciplines for your own project collaborations.
This week we’re looking at Writers & Illustrators
A classic combo. A writer will come up with the perfect string of words to evoke an emotion. An illustrator will take that written word, immortalise and strengthen it through their illustrative voice.
You’ll find strong examples of these two working in harmony in book illustrations, murals, cards, magazines and posters. Illustrators will often find a quote or perhaps an old poem that resonates with them and bring them back to light through their work.

- Medium (of course): There are publications that specify in short stories, poets or creative writing.
- Poets & Writers: Non-profit organisation dedicated to creative writing.
- Writers helping Writers: Facebook group dedicated to writers helping each other out.
Writers, find illustrators here:
- Search Lettering on Behance: This is a large network of visual creativity. Have a browse and message people you’re into. You never know!
- Dribbble: Another visual network of graphic designers & Illustrators. It can be hard to contact these guys as they don’t give them the option to message them through the website. See if their own website with an email address to contact them.
- Search lettering on Instagram: This might be your best bet for collaboration as there will be a illustrators more open to collaborate to practice and get their work exposed.
