China is inundated with many beautiful mountains that each hold a rich history, cultural or religious significance, and rich wildlife. Many of these mountains are begging to be explored, and as such, in this article I will introduce you to 8 mountains that are worth exploring.
Yellow Mountain
A charming mountain whose beauty changes with the seasons. A great site for those who would want to venture around the mountain where the once famous legendary yellow emperor lived. If that isn’t your thing, then the mountain is still famous for its picturesque sights, abundant wildlife and hot springs.
Mt. Wutai
A holy mountain which is home to many important monasteries and temples constructed in China, with Foguang temple and Nanchan temple being two of the oldest preserved wooden structures. A great trip for those who want to explore Buddhist culture whilst also trekking a mountain.
Mt. Hua
This mountain is most revered among the five great mountains in China. It’s a great spot for those who would want to relive parts of the pilgrimages made by emperors of times gone past and to be at the seat of the holy land of Taoism.
Mt. Lu
An intriguing mountain in which many of the peaks are covered by mist for most of the year. A great aspect of this mountain, other than being the home to Lushan tea, is its temperament climate during the summer. Because of this, Lushan is an ideal summer getaway for those who would welcome a more cool and relaxing summer.
Mt. Emei
An UNESCO World Heritage Site, Mount Emei (峨眉山) is a famous attraction and a sacred Buddhist Mountain. A great mountain for hikers as the route gives way to many beautiful sites and once you reach the summit, you will be gifted with many spectacular sites.
Mt. Changbai (长白山)
A beautiful mountain that due to its rugged terrain provides ample shelter for many at risk animals. If seeing some of these at risk animals isn’t your thing, then there are plethora of hot springs dotted about to relieve some of that tension and refresh your mind and body, while you could go out and try to see if you could find some of the 1,500+ plant species around the forests.
Mt. Wuyi
Located in Fujian province, the subtropical environment lends the mountain to boasts an amazing amount of biodiversity. A great selling point for this mountain is the abundance of tea that is produced in an around this region, which would make it a great destination to learn about tea harvesting, making or just tea cultural in general while taking back some great Chinese tea.
Mt. Wudang (武当山)
A great little mountain in Hubei, which is famed for being a holy spot of Taoism. Touring around the mountain you will get a chance to see some beautiful period pieces of Chinese architecture that is over 1,000 years old. Temples of interest include the Golden Hall and the Purple Cloud Temple.
