August 5: Brunswick to Acadia National Park
When I told my brother about this road trip, he said I had to visit Acadia National Park; so I arranged my plans to fit it in.
As I want to avoid highways as much as possible so that I can enjoy more beautiful roads, I take the Route 1 from Brunswick to Ellsworth, then head to Mount Desert Island. I’m getting hungry, but before I sit for lunch, I stop by the Bar Harbor Campground to reserve a spot for the night. Last time I camped was probably twenty years ago; I’m quite excited to do it again.
Once I found and reserved a spot, I get back in the car and arrive in Bar Harbor at around 3 pm for a well-deserved lunch. The city looks cute, but it’s packed with tourists, and I don’t want to stay there for long, so I head back to the camp to put the tent.
My brother lent me his “2-seconds tent”: open the bag and it pops up, quite magical. Unfortunately, the pegs provided with the tent are crap, and I’m having a hard time with them. Luckily, my neighbor offers me a few spare ones that are much easier to drive into the ground.

The tent is set, the mattress and sleeping bag ready to welcome me later, so I go for a drive in the park in the late afternoon. It’s beautiful, but I can’t stay for too long as the night is coming. Tomorrow morning will be better.

I go back to the campground, get in the tent and turn the light off; it’s just after 9 pm.
