The #BuildLove Project

EHTP scholars working on I #BuildLove signs

Since 1958, East Harlem Tutorial Program (EHTP) has supported students to graduate college and realize their best possible selves, through our network of community after-school programs and schools. Our families learn and live in East Harlem, but they come from all over the world. This diversity is a critical asset to us and it helps to make EHTP the incredibly strong and vibrant place that it is today.

To celebrate the diversity of our community, particularly in today’s political climate, we worked with legendary artist Manny Vega to create a five story banner featuring the flag of Mexico, flags representing other students’ nationalities, symbols of inclusion, and the hashtag #BuildLove. The flags are stitched together, demonstrating that while we may come from different places, we are tied together by our common humanity.

Our scholars are so proud of this work and the positive statement they are making to East Harlem and the world. Help us spread the message to build love, and not walls, by using the template here to make your own sign and sharing it on social media using #BuildLove. (Or get creative and show how you #BuildLove any way you want!)

Thank you in advance — we can only truly support our students if we celebrate who they are and where they are from.
