ESG October Roundup
Our CEO, Josh Nilson, has been a busy man recently. He’s been hitting the streets and attending numerous tech events all over BC. With the goal of spreading information on the game industry to newcomers and professionals alike, he’s been making the rounds in order to nurture aspiring developers in BC.
The first stop of this ESG BC tour was The University of Northern British Columbia. This event was primarily for Business and Computer Science students with an interest in the game industry. Cutting through the fluff, Josh explained the ins-and-outs of the game industry in BC to the students.
Next, at the Discover the Path to Tech and Gaming event at Hubspace, we reignited our love for Prince George by sharing more savvy about the game scene. Afterward, at the Happy Hour event, we got to take part in another ESG passion: craft beer. Fortunately, our Lead Analyst is also a Brewery owner so the Lager and Ales flowed generously from Barkerville Brewing. Whether you came for the talk or just the beer, the event was well worth it.
Next up, we sobered up and went back to school as we swung by the UBC campuses to support ReFiG 2018. Joined by our very own Software Engineer, Lindsey, and our Talent Acquisition Specialist, Dominique, the three gave a talk about diversity and equality in our industry. While discussing the current state of the game industry and what defines a “gamer”, the trio did their best to supply an interesting angle at the academic conference. We strongly believe that the game industry is a place for people of all ethnicities, beliefs, genders, and sexual orientations. We want to thank the those who represented the many Universities at ReFiG, such as York University, Universality of Brighton, North Carolina, and MANY more. Everyone absolutely killed it.
And that’s not all, our other ESG comrades checked out Unite Los Angeles 2018 conference along with TwitchCon at San Jose too. We’re always up for a chance to learn from others and bring it to the studio. If we’re on the docket in another industry event, we distill that knowledge and add our own experiences when it comes time for another talk.
We have a lot of pride for our roots here and BC. The rising tide raises all boats at the port so we’ll always do our best to cultivate a healthy and innovative culture in the game industry here. As we like to say: “Buy BC. Made in BC.”
