Hardwood Heyday: It’s All on the Table at ESG
As we settle into our office space, we continue to furnish the spread. The daily struggle for more meeting areas is real, so of course we needed some good, hard surfaces to gather around.
Now we could have just grabbed a table from IKEA and assembled it like the amateur carpenters we are, or we could do something different. Something closer to home. Since this is BC, we managed to find a local woodworker through one of our lovely designers. It’s a fundamental law of nature that every Canadian is two degrees of separation away from a carpenter.
Mainland Woodworks is a family run business focused on design and custom wood crafting. With James Spouler behind the wheel, its unique products go against the grain, just like us.
The two tables are made from a storm felled maple. The tree fell on a power line in Abbotsford, BC, nearly burning James’ father-in-law’s home down. Luckily, someone was around to call timber, because the inferno was prevented, and the wood was set aside for four years to dry.
After the wood had thoroughly dried out, it was milled right here BC, never straying too far from its original roots. Over the following weeks, the lumber was crafted into two bar height tables. Sanded to perfection and inlaid with Brazilian ironwood bow ties, the tables are a sight to behold. We can definitely say it’s a cut above the competition.
We strive to support local independent businesses, and we believe these beautifully crafted tables embody this. It’s easy to support the larger companies farther away from home, but it’s important to branch out and show support for your community.
