The Annual Unity Developer Day conference tour recently stopped by the rainy city of Vancouver, and we were on it like beans on toast. Unity toted this event as an exchange of stories between devs, and it was just that: a hotbed for creativity. Three of our own employees were invited to give talks, and we couldn’t be more proud.

The keynote was led by Kay Chan, our Lead Marketing Manager. Aside from a picture of herself riding an oversized fake turkey, this talk dove into the rich tapestry that is the Vancouver game industry. Did you know that there are 152 game studios in British Columbia? Well, you would if you were at her presentation!

Later on, our Senior Software Engineer, Steven Sauer served up a talk about server-side data. He went into depth about our data pipeline flow, explaining how it has allowed us to achieve server authority. Springboarding off this, Steven discussed how server authority is a big step to preventing cheating and saving on server costs.

Ever wonder about memory optimization for mobile games? Well, Marcus Trenton had your back as he discussed Sprite Optimization. Marcus led us through the pitfalls of modern phones and how their memory interacts with sprites, whether is was asset bundles or texture compression, he had you covered.

It’s always fantastic to see our employees share knowledge with the community. There’s no such thing as too much knowledge. The Vancouver game scene is something we share, whether you’re an indie or a biggie. Sharing our diverse skill sets will only allow our industry to grow.

We want to give a huge thanks to Unity for hosting this stellar event, and to everyone who came out to present their stories and mingle. Here’s to the Vancouver game industry, may it continue to grow.
