Eastman coatings scientist receives award for compelling scientific paper
Dr. Lin Feng is well known around Eastman for her significant contributions to an Eastman team that is delivering breakthrough innovations — like Eastman Tetrashield™ — to the coatings industry. Her peers in the industry recently took notice, too.
Dr. Feng, a principal scientist with Eastman’s Coatings Application Research Group, received a prestigious award recently from her colleagues at the 2019 CoatingsTech Conference. This event is a big deal in the coatings industry because it brings together top professionals from around the world to hear about the latest innovations that are shaping the industry.
The CoatingsTech Best Paper award went to Dr. Feng for her submission “From Fundamentals to Applications: Understanding BPA-Non-Intent Resin Technology in Food Contact Metal Packaging Coatings.” In her paper, she explained that consumer and regulatory forces have driven the replacement of bisphenol-A (BPA)-based materials in food contact metal packaging coatings. The paper addressed how Eastman applied a suite of methods and analysis techniques for a resin development strategy for novel non-BPA resins in metal packaging coating applications.
Why does this matter? Cans that contain food have a protective coating on the inside, and coatings formulated with Tetrashield offer a unique balance of durability and flexibility — and are BPA-free. The work of Dr. Feng and the team she represents allows coatings formulators, can makers, food/beverage brands and consumers to benefit from the exceptional protection that Tetrashield provides.
