The Wolfgang Puck 1050–watt commercial blender, a kitchen appliance that can make steamy hot soups and iced smoothies, and the Wolfgang Puck Chopper, a 400-watt, dual power, multi-blade chopper that is versatile enough to prepare everything from fresh pesto to fruit smoothies to ice cream.
Needs
Wolfgang Puck Appliances Inc needed a food-safe material that was BPA-free, very tough, held up to high and low temperatures, while providing glasslike clarity and dishwasher durability. “These attributes parallel the high quality standards that are synonymous with the Wolfgang Puck brand,” explained Mike Sanseverino, executive vice president, W.P. Appliances, Inc.
Material
Eastman Tritan copolyester, with its glass-like clarity, minus the weight, shatter-risk, and slick-wet handling that comes with traditional glass products in the kitchen, was the ideal material for the Wolfgang Puck’s new blender and chopper carafes. “We looked to Tritan because of the advantages the material offers for our customers,” explained Sanseverino. Tritan is a new-generation clear plastic with excellent toughness and impact resistance. Unlike some plastics, it is made without bisphenol-A (BPA) and retains clarity after repeated dishwasher washing cycles, without hazing or cracking
Success
“As we’ve begun to migrate other products, we’ve found that molding Tritan has been effortless, with only slight adjustments to existing equipment and processes,” continued Sanseverino. “We have a goal of using the material for 100% of the line.”
