#ICYMI Cleantech News 11/20/15

Welcome again to our series of regular In Case You Missed It (ICYMI) cleantech news blog posts. These blog posts feature some of the most interesting, compelling and/or impactful cleantech news of the week.

This week’s highlights include Apple announcing a deal to power all of its Singapore operations with renewable energy; a group of utilities announcing plans to build Europe’s second-ever floating windfarm off the coast of Portugal; and a report finding that drones may one day provide maintenance for utility-scale solar farms.

Here are some of the top stories in cleantech this week:

· RENEWABLES: Apple announced that it has struck a deal to power all of its Singapore operations with renewable energy, the latest in a series of steps from the company to turn its operations worldwide green, reported Reuter’s Valerie Volovici.

· DRONES: Greentech Media’s Jeff St. John wrote a piece explaining how drones can provide tremendous value for utility-scale PV maintenance and data collection.

· SOLAR: Bloomberg’s Chris Martin wrote a feature on the global surplus of polysilicon, the main ingredient in solar cells, and how it’s now “dirt cheap.”

· WIND: A group of energy utilities and engineering companies announced that they will be building Europe’s second-ever floating windfarm off the coast of Portugal, reported Reuter’s Geert De Clercq.

· EVs: AutoBlog’s Sebastian Blanco reported that the 2016 Chevy Volt won the 2016 Green Car of the Year — becoming the first model to win the award twice.
