This week’s highlights include the Supreme Court voting to block President Obama’s Clean Power Plan; the wind industry surpassing the hydro industry in terms of power capacity in the European electricity grid; and smart building and smart grid technologies taking off at this year’s DistribuTECH conference.
Here are some of the top stories in cleantech this week:
- CLEAN POWER PLAN: The Supreme Court blocked President Obama’s Clean Power Plan, putting on hold federal regulations to curb carbon dioxide emissions mainly from coal-fired power plants, reported Reuter’s Valerie Volcovici.
- GOOGLE: Google published a blog post further explaining its goal to be powered by 100 percent renewable energy, reported Joshua Hill of CleanTechnica.
- ENERGY STORAGE: Lithium Ion batteries are the leading form of energy storage for new projects, according to a new report from Navigant Research.
- WIND: The wind industry has surpassed the hydro industry as the third largest player in the European electricity grid in terms of capacity, reported BusinessGreen’s Jocelyn Timperley.
- DISTRIBUTECH: Jeff St. John of Greentech Media wrote a round-up of smart building and microgrid news from DistribuTECH, one of the largest utility and smart grid trade shows in the U.S.
