#ICYMI Cleantech News 3/4/16

Welcome again to our series of regular In Case You Missed It (ICYMI) cleantech news blog posts. These blog posts feature some of the most interesting, compelling and/or impactful cleantech news of the week.

This week’s highlights include billionaire investor Warren Buffett saying that renewable energy is pushing utilities to be more competitive; Singapore feeding solar power into its retail electric grid for the first time; and a feature from The Washington Post on how solar will add more electricity-generation capacity than any other sector this coming year.

Here are some of the top stories in cleantech this week:

· WARREN BUFFET: Greentech Media’s Stephen Lacey wrote that billionaire investor Warren Buffett said that renewable energy and efficiency are pushing utilities beyond a “sloppy” operational model and into a more competitive environment.

· SOLAR: Chris Mooney of the Washington Post reported that the booming solar sector will add more new electricity-generating capacity than any other sector — including natural gas and wind — this coming year.

· ENERGY STORAGE: Bloomberg’s Jessica Shankleman reported that energy storage could save consumers in the United Kingdom $3.35 billion a year by 2030.

· SINGAPORE: Reuter’s Jacob Gronholt-Pedersen covered how Singapore began to feed solar power into its retail electric grid for the first time, as it seeks to reduce emissions and prepares to fully liberalize its electricity market.

· INVESTMENTS: More money was invested in renewables ($367 billion US) than in fossil fuels ($253 billion US) in 2015, reported CleanTechnica.
