#ICYMI Cleantech News 4/1/16

Welcome again to our series of regular In Case You Missed It (ICYMI) cleantech news blog posts. These blog posts feature some of the most interesting, compelling and/or impactful cleantech news of the week.

This week’s highlights include Tesla announcing that it had over 100,000 advance orders for its new Tesla Model 3 within the first 24 hours of making advance orders available to the public; China ordering power transmission companies to provide grid connectivity for all renewable power generation sources in the country; and news that some U.S. farms are finding it more lucrative to harvest sunshine over crops such as tobacco.

Here are some of the top stories in cleantech this week:

· TESLA: The New York Times’ Austin Ramzy reported on the surge of advance orders for the new Tesla Model 3, with people lining up at dealerships across the U.S.

· SOLAR: Bloomberg’s Joe Ryan reported that some U.S. farms are finding it more lucrative to harvest sunshine with solar panels over crops such as tobacco.

· ENERGY STORAGE: Utility Dive’s Robert Walton reported that energy storage in commercial and industrial areas is poised for growth over the next decade — with revenues expected to reach $10.8 billion by 2025.

· CHINA: China has ordered power transmission companies to provide grid connectivity for all renewable power generation sources, in order to end a bottleneck that has left a large amount of clean power idle, according to Reuters.

· JOBS: Analysis of data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Dept. of Energy for Environmental Entrepreneurs found that 2.5 million Americans are employed in the clean energy sector.
