#ICYMI Cleantech News 5/27/16

Welcome again to our series of regular In Case You Missed It (ICYMI) cleantech news blog posts. These blog posts feature some of the most interesting, compelling and/or impactful cleantech news of the week.

This week’s highlights include a rise in solar energy jobs over those in the oil and gas industry for the first time; Apple investigating EV’s; a new study on Nevada solar energy benefits; and a whole new meaning to the phrase “clean energy”.

Here are some of the top stories in cleantech this week:

  • JOBS: The number of U.S. jobs in solar energy overtook those in oil and natural gas extraction for the first time last year, helping drive a global surge in employment in the clean-energy business as fossil-fuel companies faltered, as reported by Bloomberg.
  • ELECTRIC VEHICLES: Reuters reported that Apple is investigating how to charge electric cars, talking to charging station companies and hiring engineers with expertise in the area, according to people familiar with the matter and a review of LinkedIn profiles.
  • SOLAR: A new study by SolarCity and the Natural Resources Defense Council found that Nevada’s 23,000 existing rooftop solar customers provide net benefits to all state residents ranging from $7 million to $14 million per year. Read more in this article by Julia Pyper of Greentech Media.
  • “CLEAN ENERGY”: This term took on a whole new meaning this week when CNN Money showcased International Wastewater Systems, which has built a $20 million business harvesting heat from sewage.
