This week’s highlights include Oracle acquiring Opower for $532 million, SolarCity announcing that it will be branching into installation, financing and consulting services for utility-scale solar and Telsa saying that it is seeing strong sales for its residential and commercial storage products.

- ACQUISITION: Oracle bought energy efficiency and demand response software company Opower for $532 Million this week — Greentech Media’s Stephen Lacey looks at why the deal could be good for both companies.
- NRG: After former CEO David Crane’s departure, NRG Energy is now pulling back on its renewable and other alternative energy initiatives, reports the New York Times’ Diane Cardwell.
- ENERGY STORAGE: Tesla says it is seeing strong sales for its residential and commercial storage products, with 25 MWh of storage capacity delivered in Q1 2016, writes Utility Dive’s Peter Maloney.
- TRENDS: POWER Magazine dives deep into the “Global Trends in Renewable Energy Investment 2016” report from Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF) and the Frankfurt School. The report examines key trends in what was another record year for global investment in renewable energy.
- SOLAR: SolarCity announced that it will be branching into installation, financing and consulting services for utility-scale solar as well as energy storage development, reported PV Tech’s Daniella Ola.
