Welcome again to our series of In Case You Missed It (ICYMI) cleantech news blog posts. These blog posts feature some of the most interesting, compelling and/or impactful cleantech news of the week. This week’s highlights include Chile’s solar industry giving electricity away for free, news that Tesla’s Gigafactory will officially open on July 29th, and a feature from Greentech Media’s Jeff St. John on the top trends behind multibillion-dollar market for utility mergers and acquisitions.
Here are some of the top stories in cleantech this week:
· SOLAR: According to Bloomberg, Chile’s solar industry has expanded so quickly that it’s giving electricity away for free,
· TESLA: Chris Ziegler of The Verge reported that Tesla’s Gigafactory will officially open on July 29 with a ceremony at the facility.
· TRENDS: Greentech Media’s Jeff St. John took a look at the top trends behind multibillion-dollar market for utility mergers and acquisitions.
· RENEWABLES: Developing nations invested $156 billion in renewables in 2015 — a 19 percent increase on the year before, and more than all richer nations combined, according to Quartz’s Cassie Werber.
· REPORT: A survey from KPMG on energy executives found that 60 percent of US energy executives expect 50 percent renewables by 2045, reported Utility Dive’s Robert Walton.
