Jodhpur (not to be confused with Jaipur!) stretches from ancient city walls to the spectacular and larger-than-life Mehrangarh Fort. Like anywhere in India, the best time to visit is between October and March when it’s not suffocatingly hot or pouring Monsoons.

Eat

At Baradari Café at the Raas Hotel: Jodhpur’s newest boutique hotel, the Raas Hotel is home to one of our favourite new restaurants in the city — the Baradari Café. European by day, Indian by night and both equally good, the restaurant is an old durbar hall, the perfect setting for a dinner of two after a long day of sightseeing. Try the Lal Maas, a local Rajasthani favourite. Literally, meaning red meat — the red referring to the red chillies in the dish and not just the kind of meat it is, which of course is red meat.
