Reena Alex, Joshua’s mother’s message: I am sending this recipe on the behalf of Joshua Alex-grade10D. Very happy to inform you that he is enjoying organic farming and has made the Ceylon Spinach sambar himself, under my supervision.

Recipe for Ceylon Spinach (Talinum fruticosum) Sambar

Ingredients:

Tuvar Dal, Tamarind, Sambar Powder, Tomato, Small Onions, Ceylon Spinach, Sambar Powder, Jeera, Mustard Seeds, Sesame Oil

Method:

  1. Boil dal in a pressure cooker
  2. Mix the boiled dal with spinach, 8 small onions, 2 tomatoes, a lemon sized tamarind ball and salt
  3. Boil it for 10 minutes till it reaches sambar consistency
  4. Garnish the sambar with tempered mustard seeds / jeera and 1 tbsp sambar powder in some oil
