Shan Nei Chicken (山內雞肉) is known for serving up a tasty version of chicken over rice (雞肉飯) using Hainenese chicken. Originally from the Hainan Province in China, the chicken is traditionally poached, and resulting fat and liquid is poured over the rice adding a tasty, oily chicken flavor.

The standard Shan Nei chicken over rice comes as a set ($80 NT) with chicken, rice, and a soup chaser. Be sure to take on a little bit of that ginger with each bite of chicken. Also, chew carefully as there’s a bit of bone inside.

I came by around 4:45 pm, on the early side before dinner time, and there were only a few seats left. Shan Nei Chicken is seated right at the mouth of Nan Ji Chang Night Market (南機場夜市), so be prepared to line up if you go during peak hours.
