Not too long ago, I decided to write a book about a special corner of the internet known to some as the “Food Internet.” It houses Insta foodies, digital recipe indexes, bloggers, restaurant reviews, and all other food-related digital media. And it’s only in the past five to seven years that it has really blossomed.

Fascinated by the collapse of a highly sensory subject matter into the digitized 2-D — one loaded with cultural significance and everyday importance — I began my investigation. I talked to people from all corners of the Food Internet, from restaurant owners and instagramming “foodies” to professional food writers, and organized their insight around three main themes motivating the Food Internet’s exponential expansion. I captured how digital media is changing the way we eat, how food-related businesses are adapting (or not) and why people consistently gravitate to cheese-pulls, #foodporn, and all else Food Internet. Now, less than a year later, I’m excited to share my findings with you! I’m so excited that I’m going to be posting excerpts and stories from my book, Eating the Internet: Consuming Digital Food Media in this blog series.

I hope you’ll read along (and maybe even read the full book). Explore the Food Internet with me through the eyes of its makers and consumers, bite by bite lets Eat the Internet. Bon Appetite!
