Singapore is a popular destination for business and leisure travel and it has earned a global reputation as a culinary hot spot. But in recent years, this high-tech island nation’s focus on food innovation and environmental stewardship has made it a hub of activity for sustainable dining — and the perfect place for us to launch JUST Egg in Southeast Asia with our first partner, the Grand Hyatt Singapore.
This month’s debut in Asia’s greenest city exceeded our expectations and we’re thankful to everyone we met at our JUST Egg Food Truck Experience at the Grand Hyatt (where you can now enjoy JUST Egg daily at their poolside cafe, Oasis) and Green is the New Black’s Conscious Festival, an annual gathering of thousands who embrace an eco-minded lifestyle.
At our three-day Grand Hyatt pop-up, enthusiastic customers bought 3,400 JUST Egg sandwiches, with 225 sold in the first 25 minutes of opening. The bright yellow truck, emblazoned with the tagline “Made from plants, not chickens,” was easy to spot along bustling Orchard Road and was a popular destination for lunch as well as an afternoon (or after-hours) snack.
A steady stream of locals and visitors took photos and shared thoughts about their first bites on social media and the Grand Hyatt’s JUST Egg sandwich quickly became the most-reviewed dish on the plant-focused food app A Billion Veg. But you don’t have to take our word for it. Check out what Sethlui.com, the most popular food review website in Singapore had to say!
Our team is, in a word, “shiok” (a commonly used word in Singapore and Malaysia to convey happiness) — and we can’t wait for JUST Egg to arrive at more restaurants in Singapore soon. In the meantime, if you want to tell your favorite eatery to carry JUST Egg, we’ve created a handy toolkit to help you connect with them: http://ju.st/demandegg.
