1. What is your favorite part about being a Registered Dietitian?
I love that I am helping people to realize the role optimal nutrition plays in maintaining a healthy, balanced life. I light up when I see the beam in my patients eyes when they talk about how learning how to eat healthy has restore their sense of purpose. I approach nutrition from a wholistic perspective with my patients, each patient is treated on an individual level, its never a ‘one shoe fit all’ approach. Sometimes I will just close my computer and talk to my client about their day because that’s what they want to talk about. I want my clients to never feel overwhelmed because with all the different types of ‘fad diet’ out there and with the internet at their finger tips, nutrition can become overwhelming. I want my client to build a healthy, natural relationship with food, while shutting out all the “empty noises.”
2. How do you utilize meal planning in your practice?
Prior to EatLove I shun away from meal planning because this is can be very time consuming and it takes away from me performing my clinical duties. Now that I have EatLove, I can teach my client about the make up of a balanced meal, what it entails and what it look like and the mere fact that it generates a grocery list makes it even more attractive because this is major struggle that most clients face-Making a Healthy Grocery List.
3. What are your favorite features on EatLove PRO? How has it changed your job on a day-to-day basis? How has it impacted your clients?
- What’s your favorite food? Of course I am going to say Jerk Chicken (The real Jamaican way- very spicy!)
- What’s your go-to quick weeknight meal? Jamaican Chicken Soup (one pot meal) + a green side salad (usually Greek)
- Food philosophy? I actually have 2 Food philosophy (1) I always advise my patients to think about learning how to eat healthy and lose weight as a marathon and not a sprint, especially when its new focus. (2) Enjoy food but eat to live and not live to eat!
