1. Tell us a little bit about yourself, your practice, and specialty:
I work with people who are desperate to get rid of the pain, discomfort, or unwanted symptoms in their body, but just don’t know how. Their issues may be in the gut (IBS, IBD, gluten sensitivity), the brain (ADHD/ADD, anxiety, depression) or somewhere else (fatigue, inflammation, joint pain, high cholesterol, weight gain, headache, skin issues). I have had digestive problems all my adult life. They are what sent me into the field of dietetics. I started private practice right out of internship, 13 years ago. Healing my own gut and doing the same for others who have been disappointed by conventional doctors fuels my passion for learning all I can. That passion lead me to integrative and functional nutrition — which is exactly what people need! I started practicing functional nutrition about 4 years ago and my patient outcomes went from night to day!
Recently I incorporated my business name. I am now president of Health Takes Guts Inc. I also hired a dietitian to join my company. I just wrote a book on how to use functional nutrition to treat all digestive issues, anxiety, depression, fatigue, autoimmune diseases and more. It is an e-book and can be found on my website starting in March 2018.
2. What is your favorite part about being a Registered Dietitian?
I love helping people feel good. I especially love helping people who have tried so many things and had no success elsewhere. It is rewarding to use my nutrition knowledge to change someone’s life for the better.
3. How do you utilize meal-planning in your practice?
Until EatLove PRO I didn’t use meal plans. Too much work and most people wouldn’t follow them anyway. Now, I ofter meal plans to all clients. And the ones who seem interested, I create them an EatLove meal plan. It is great to be able to offer this service.
4. What are your favorite features on EatLove? How has it changed your job on a day-to-day basis? How has it impacted your clients?
I like how I can determine the nutrition prescription; the percentage of calories from each macronutrient. I love that I can eliminate gluten or something else.
EatLove PRO is so easy to use and the hard work (recipes, calculations) are done for you! I feel good that I can offer meal plans; it seems like something I should do, but never did before, but now can!
Some clients use it more than others. The ones who use it like it a lot and find it helpful. Others just use it for recipe ideas, but I encourage them to look at the portions and ways meals are laid out (even if they don’t follow the plan).
- What’s your favorite food? Sushi
- What’s your go-to quick weeknight meal? Tacos
- Food philosophy? Eat as varied a diet as possible while not eating foods that make you sick or compromise health.
