Love is complicated enough on its own

Artichokes, cherry tomatoes, radicchio and olives

My mission to understand the meaning of ‘love’ felt, and still feels somewhat complicated. After spending my childhood years hearing the sublime ending of fairy tales ‘and they lived happily ever after’, my teenage years reading the romantic fiction of Danielle Steele and watching amorous movies where love is the be-all and end-all, I automatically developed an innermost sense to the word ‘love.’ I expected to feel it inside just in the same way as I feel sad, happy or hungry… but I didn’t. It was only when I fell in love with food that it all dawned on me…

I am in love with food because it kindles all my five senses. I talk about it fondly and delicately, protect it from harm and store it with care. When handling it I use the appropriate utensils and make sure to choose the best ingredients to concoct a pleasant and flavorsome dish. The sight of food makes my heart beat faster, especially when I travel and venture to discover new food cultures. No matter what time of the day it is, my mind will be pondering about food first and then about everything else. Ahh, cooking good food for the people I love is such a rewarding experience that I would like to recommend it to anyone out there.

Cooking with passion, inspiration and dedication gives a different dimension to cooking. So now that Valentine ’s Day is approaching think about food as the means to deliver a meaningful message of love and inspire yourself by scrumptious recipe suggestions. I have collected a selection of recipes from previous Februarys that are suitable for such an occasion.
