The World Health Organization recommends that only less than 5% of calories consumption should come from sugar. There are numerous studies that link sugar to deaths resulting from excessive sugar intake. Do you still want to comprise more sugar in your diet? I suppose not. Below are five steps to aid you in cutting down sugar.

Try to go for fruit-based desserts instead of processed ones with added sugar

Step #1: Identify the Main Sugary Diet
Take a closer look at your daily diet and identify the most sugary of all the foods you consume. Plan on how you will reduce the intake of the food to eventually ditching it. Trust me, your health is worth the sacrifice.

Step #2: Start Slow. Give Yourself a Month
Similar to almost everything else, sugar is very addictive. Any addiction can be broken by taking the correct approach. Take a step by step move by decreasing the amount every other day for a month. By the time you realize it, the addiction will be gone.

Step #3: Buy Plain Foods and Dulcify Them at Home
There is almost no sugary food that has no plain version of it. Instead of taking the sweetened yoghurt, why not go for plain milk? If at all you might need a little sugary taste, just do that at home, where you will control the amount to add.

Step #4: Ditch the Beverages
Research suggests that almost 40% of the sugary diet today is as a result of beverages. These drinks have a lot of sugar added to them in that a single bottle of soda has close to 140 calories resulting from the sugar. Dump the beverage and replace them with the healthy fresh fruit juice.

Step #5: Make Strategic Shopping
Make a list of natural healthy and plain foods to replace every sugary food that you were used to buying. Most of the foods on the supermarket are added a lot of sugar while processing, which is hard to determine correctly. If at all there is an option to replace the sugary food, go for it. This is not a sacrifice, its making the right choices.
