Usually, we eat whenever we feel hungry, we eat to feel good. We tend to eat more when food looks amazing. Subject to data and statistics, to avoid plates that are served with nice food, think: a deep red plate with a greasy slice of pizza, because there is less of a contrast, which may prompt us to eat more. Overeating do not necessarily cause obesity, there are other reasons why we overeat. How we eat is instead determined by who we are. When we overeat, we build relationships with our favorite foods. Ingredients can also be another reason why we overeat.

Top Five Reasons Why We Overeat

Reason #1: To pass time
Other times we just eat to pass time. We often eat when we feel bored, when we don’t have anything to work on. This is especially true to those people who don’t like engaging in something different or new. What you can do: Find activities like reading, watching a movie or even exercising to keep yourself entertained.

Reason #2: To feel good
We may have some very busy schedule that we often ignore our own needs for rest and relationships, and end up emotionally eating. Especially when we are upset about something.

Reason #3: Eating carelessly
Some of us can hardly remember everything we ate during the day, probably because it was too much. Not using a nutritional journal can be a possible reason we don’t remember what we ate, meaning most of the snacks we ate are were out of order. People who are focused on what they’re doing are not always aware of what’s actually going into their mouths.

Reason #4: To stimulate ourselves
You’ve had a long day, but instead of going to sleep or taking a break, you head to the kitchen for a quick sugar or coffee fix. People who eat for stimulation often ignore their body’s signals of feeling tired or exhausted. Instead, these people often eat junk food or drink alcohol to get that instant high.

Reason #5: You Eat Out of Habit
If you were taught to always eat everything on your plate, this could be another reason you’re overeating. Even when our bodies tell us we’re full, some people still end up eating and eating — as long as they don’t feel guilty about wasting food.
