Dale Thompson — “Dirty Diana”
The SoundLab over in Brockton, MA is doing great things for the rising hip-hop scene community in the area. Last week they put on a special show featuring the likes of Latrell James as well as young talents including Stephen Figuera and MonaVeli. Another artist who performed is Dale Thompson and the timing couldn’t have been better considering the release of his latest track “Dirty Diana”. Thompson has been steadily improving in recent months and the progression prevails on this new single, his best offering yet and a record rooted in familiar subject matter yet stands out thanks to a strong execution in song structure.
Produced by Humbeats, “Dirty Diana” immediately gives off an acquatic vibe sonically with the listener being transported to an underwater location that contains the same vices many rappers talk about above sea level, codeine and people who don’t understand the lifestyle. A smooth vocal delivery over the slowly building production allows Dale to shine on the record, flowing with ease as he uniquely pays homage to Michael Jackson by putting “Dirty Diana” in a promethazine-filled Atlantis of sorts. The song excels both atmospherically and in showcasing Thompson as a voice that has the ability to reach far beyond the confines of the local area.
