EK — “I Got You”

Boston-based artist EK has developed a solid catalog of material for himself over the past few years. After releasing his Hands Of Time EP last year, EK recently released his first offering of the year “I Got You” and while it’s been several months since I’ve delved into his previous material, this new track is a definitive standout in terms of displaying growth and progression.

Right off the bat, the vocal style and lyrical content of “I Got You” sounds reminiscent of Frank Ocean’s Channel Orange fan-favorite single “Pyramids”. And while the influence is fairly easy to spot for Ocean fans, EK pours his own emotion into the song and the chorus flows seamlessly into verses that vividly describe the tempting yet dangerous qualities of a female desire. Staying true to this concept throughout, “I Got You” is a soaring effort powered by honest lyricism that shines over the underlying moving production. As the arrangement of the song ends with an excellent saxophone solo on the outro, the well-rounded aspects of “I Got You” come together in full form and EK fully proves his ability to deliver a heartfelt lover’s tale over exceptional instrumentation.

Listen to the impressive offering below and read EK’s brief note on the background of “I Got You”.

“I Got You” is a song about falling in love with a deceitful women, a Cleopatra, but whole-heartedly submitting to her deceitful ways and her allure, DESPITE knowing she isn’t there for your best interest.
