Oh wait! What is this years’ E-Summit about?

“Everybody is standing, but you must stand out.”

With an urge to leap ahead in our mission as the Entrepreneurship Cell of a renowned Institution, we at E-Cell built upon our outlook of implementing the goals set out by us. E-Summit 2015 is our attempt to make a difference and stand out truly, in delivering to a burgeoning entrepreneurial community what so many these days are trying to.

Revelation comes to you when your questions are the silliest but the most basic; challenging the very essence of your existence. We came up against something similar.

A few months ago, we all sat together to discuss the upcoming E-Summit ’15. And a question came to our minds — What is really the aim of E-Cell, IIT Kanpur? The conversation that followed might interest you as well:

What is E-Cell?

It’s a student body. OK. But there are many student bodies doing a lot of other things. Then what is E-Cell?

A group of motivated people promoting entrepreneurship. Isn’t that a pretty vague description?

After continuous brainstorming we concluded that E-Cell really is a startup, dedicated to the cause of helping other startups inside and outside the campus. But even then there are many other groups working towards this very cause. What is it that makes us DIFFERENT? What difference do we make other than adding a face to the crowd of people working to implement the same thing?

A bit of introspection and we came up with the soul of this year’s Summit:

Help those who actually need us most.

Why does a startup of Kanpur not feature in the list of 10 best startups in the country? Why can a startup in Bangalore catch the eye of a VC but not one in a tier-two city? And we found the problem we had to eradicate; doing so by attempting to provide local startups the facilities they are lacking at present.

So at E-Summit this year, our focus is to cater to and help small town start-ups, who do not get as much exposure as their counterparts in metros. We believe that the startups in tier-two cities have tremendous growth potential and with a little push, can make an impactful presence for themselves in the startup space of India. The idea of this year’s E-Summit is to be that spark for those startups of Kanpur, Lucknow and neighbouring cities.

Just like our previous editions, we’ll have workshops, talks and competitions. But the game-changer this year is ‘Up-start’, a competition geared towards giving startups a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to leapfrog their growth and make it to the premier league.

E-Summit ’15 will also play host to an expo, where participants will get a chance to display their products and ideas, with the unique opportunity to attract investors and acquirers.
