While we continue testing Echo VR on Quest with the community, we wanted to explain in more detail our testing phases so that players could better understand when they might receive an invite. Below we’ve outlined several key testing phrases with information on our goals for that test as well as community tester criteria.
Closed Alpha 1
For the closed alpha, we’re rolling out invitations for both competitive and casual level 50s players periodically. Our goal during this phase is to primarily test and evaluate higher level play and mechanics in private Echo Arena matches. Throughout this stage, our team will also review and fix bugs to address any issue that may arise.
Closed Alpha 2
During our second closed alpha we’re looking to add all players between the levels of 5- 49 to our existing (Level 50) pool of community testers. At this time our team will aim to test public matches in Arena using a diverse group of players familiar with the game. This means private matchmaking will be disabled, as well as rematches, and players will only be able queue for public matches. Additionally, our team will review and fix bugs to address issue that may arise just like in the previous testing phase.
Once we reach this phase, all players who signed up for testing will join our existing community testers from the last two phases. Community testers will have access to all of Echo VR, including the Tutorials, VS. AI, the Lobby, and Echo Arena. During this phase we are focused on testing crossplay between all existing Rift and Quest players, addressing any major issues that arise, and introducing a larger group of players new to Echo VR.
Anyone interested will have the opportunity to test Echo VR on Quest during this phase. More detailed information will be released in another Dev Log in the future.
Additionally, to more easily flow between phases and pivot when necessary, we have omitted dates from each phase. This means if testing goes well on one phase, we may immediately roll into another phase as soon as we are able, or we might stay a little longer in a phase to further evaluate feedback and address issues to ensure we make Echo VR as fun and comfortable for players on Rift and Quest.
