Education is undoubtedly one the most crucial elements of our society. With such large strides in technology, like cloud-based content delivery networks such as echo3D, the education industry has enjoyed numerous benefits as it has adopted modern technology in the field to reach its goals.

The industry is perfect for experimenting with virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) solutions!

How VR/AR Fit Into Education

The best way to describe the VR/AR implementation in the education system is by focusing on the following four terms: Better, Harder, Faster, and Stronger. The education industry has started incorporating newer technologies to stay relevant in challenging times, especially with many classrooms fully remote. VR/AR are useful next steps in improving the education system.

Creating educational content is complex and time-consuming because it requires flexibility and collaboration, especially while dealing with kids. The creators must ensure the content is accurate and appropriate for the audience as well as effective and engaging. The addition of VR/AR can help ensure that this important content is well-received.

Eliminating Language Barriers

Since most of us live in melting pot societies, we encounter different languages regularly. It makes sense that multiple languages would be a factor in the classroom. With language translation features used in classrooms, the education industry can eliminate the challenges faced due to language barriers and the difficulties it brings while studying in a foreign language. Some educational VR/AR experiences are built specifically for these students to improve their language adoption and conversational skills.

Learning in VR/AR is already more effective than learning in a classroom with reportedly higher retention rates. Adopting translation services within VR/AR lowers the barrier of entry and usage so that it’s equally beneficial to all students. This is especially the case with international colleges which are known to have the highest international student ratios among all grades.

Immerseme is a platform that teaches language and is specifically used in colleges around the world. Immerseme makes it interesting by having competitions among participants and lists top scores for their language-learning based VR games. Organizations like this strive to cultivate a sense of community and competitiveness in order to engage their users. Judging by their scoreboards, it looks like they’re having great success!

Enhancing the Learning Process

An average student remembers 30% of what they hear and 20% of what they see in traditional classrooms, where teachers use auditory material and images to educate children. In VR, students retain on average 75% of what they learned. Using modern technology can help improve the learning process by using technology in classrooms to gain the attention and interest of students and provide a more interactive learning experience. With VR/AR, students can explore angles and realities of the things they learn. Instead of reading, hearing, and viewing two-dimensional images, they learn the content through a simulated 3D experience.

Learn Beyond The Classroom Without Leaving the Classroom

Normally students are committed to learning in a classroom all day with the exception of a fun field trip every now and then. They rarely go outside and have an immersive real world learning experience beyond school grounds. Thanks to VR/AR, students can explore places and things they don’t have access to in the real world, like this list of free virtual museums. They can look at cell structures in 3D, learn how to build a car engine or learn the anatomy of the human body all with a mobile device or virtual reality headset.

Nearpod is one of the many organizations creating K — 12 learning material using VR. The lessons are interactive and come in the form of pre-made lessons so educators can streamline the education process. The materials include everything from 3D demonstrations, visiting physical places virtually, puzzles, quizzes and videos in 360. They also offer AR enhancements in addition to their 500+ VR lessons.

VR/AR offer exciting opportunities to the education industry to improve the learning process. echo3D is proud to be the backend for many of these experiences. This technology enhances the learning experience and allows the education industry to explore more ways to incorporate technology in classrooms to allow students experience the future of the education industry.
