Less than a year after releasing "Papi Juancho", Maluma recently decided to present his album, which he said was born from a spiritual retreat in Jamaica. Strategically aligned with the singer's 28th birthday, "# 7DJ (7 Días En Jamaica)" was released by surprise on all streaming platforms, followed by videos for each song on YouTube.

Despite currently being one of the leading names in reggaeton, Maluma explores new sounds in this new album of only seven songs, clearly inspired by tropical beats, dancehall, and reggae, perfectly fused with urban Latin music.

According to the Colombian singer, “those seven days in Jamaica came at a time that I needed to escape and relax. I came back a different person, completely inspired and I realized that music is not just what I do, it is part of who I am, as I experience and interpret life ”.

The result is a different album featuring Jamaican artists, including Ziggy Marley, the son of the legendary Bob Marley, who gives his voice to "Tonika", the opening song of "# 7DJ". Also present on the album is the voice of Charly Black, Jamaican and reggae singer, who, in the song entitled "Love", shares a conversation with Maluma about falling in love on that Caribbean island.

Don’t worry, despite the clear changes in rhythm, the singer has not forgotten his urban musical origins. The lyrics continue to express eroticism and sensuality, with the continuous and already usual references to women and Maluma’s luxurious life.

Rolling Stone Magazine says that "# 7DJ" is not as astute as the singer's previous album. However, it seems that the fans are being receptive: all the songs on the album have reached well over 1 million views on YouTube, especially "Água de Jamaica", the most romantic theme of the album that quickly gets in the head and can potentially become one of the next summer's hits.

The album cover is also different. The Colombian artist Federico Uribe, known for using recycled materials to make works of art, created a portrait of Maluma from plastic remains that will be auctioned and donated to non-profit environmental organizations.

"# 7DJ" may not have songs to reach success like "Hawaii", "11PM" or "Felices Los 4" but it is certainly a musical experience that lovers of urban music should know. The album shows an interesting versatility of the singer while expressing his humble admiration for the musical culture of Jamaica in an organic and creative way, without forgetting his Latin roots.
