Beyonce, Dua Lipa, Doja Cat, Billie Eilish, and Taylor Swift top nominations for a first time 2021 Grammy awards led mainly by female artists.

Beyoncé had her come back to the top of Grammy awards nominations, extending her title of most-nominated female artist of all time. The American singer earned two nominations in the Record Of The Year category, for her song “Black Parade” and also “Savage”, her featuring with Megan Thee Stallion. She is also nominated in seven other categories such as R&B, Rap, and Music Video, followed by Dua Lipa, who earned six nominations in total. The British singer, who was named best new artist by the Grammys two years ago, is now on top of the nominations, including some of the most important categories such as Album of The Year, Record of The Year, and Best Pop Solo Performance due to the success of her song “Don’t Start Now” and her widespread critical acclaimed “Future Nostalgia”.

The American pop sensation Taylor Swift also received six nominations in total, including her most recent album Folklore for Album Of The Year and “Cardigan” in the category “Song of the Year”.

The American singer Billie Eilish also picked up multiple nominations for her single “Everything I Wanted”, as well as her Bond theme “No Time To Die”.

Women also dominated the Best Country Album category. It is the first time it has had five albums helmed in whole or in part by women: Little Big Town, Ingrid Andress, Brandy Clark, Miranda Lambert, and Ashley McBryde. At the same time, Best Rock Performance category is also composed entirely of women or woman-fronted bands.

The big new entries were the American singer Doja Cat and the K-Pop band BTS. Doja Cat earned three nominations, including Record of the year (with her hit single “Say So”), Best New Artist, and Best Pop Solo Performance, while BTS has become the first K-pop group to ever receive a Grammy Award nomination, for their latest hit “Dynamite”.

This year’s Grammy’s nominations are for sure a confirmation and reinsurance for female artists and defeated testosterone across the music industry. On the other hand, Male artists like Justin Bieber and the R&B star The Weeknd, who surprisingly didn’t get any nomination despite having the biggest-selling album of 2020 in the US, accused the organization of being corrupted and not serious about artist’s work. Will the 2021 Grammy awards ceremony in January be influenced by political motivations based on gender and race? We’ll see!
