Office Politics w/ Bart Meyers & Countable
It would be the understatement of the century to say that 2016 has been a tumultuous year in American politics. On the bright side of this reality, ECO-SYSTM is lucky enough to house a truly unique and influential company that strives to better connect the greater community with the often convoluted political process that surrounds our everyday lives.
Bart Meyers is the Co-founder and CEO of Countable, a mobile app and website that summarizes legislation, clarifies political news and lets people communicate directly with their lawmakers while participating in a civic community. This is accomplished by taking the overly complex legal jargon found in most legislation and replacing it with non-partisan laymen’s terms that won’t instantly force us to fall fast asleep on our keyboards (you all know exactly what I’m talking about here). In addition, whenever users vote on a bill, Countable instantly sends a personalized message to each of their lawmakers, developing a very important link between the person and the policy. The big question, however, is how did Bart come to create such an essential political tool?
Bart graduated from Evergreen College in 1997 and began his career working with IBM Global Services. Then, after a few years at Guba, he helped start a company called SideReel. After growing the company to 15 million unique visitors, he sold it to Rovi, a public company. Within a few years into his experience there, where he worked as VP Consumer Web, Bart was inspired to take on the challenge of civic engagement. It’s from this unique vision that the concept behind Countable was born. Since then, Countable has grown to over 1.3 million users nationwide, and has been featured in such prestigious media outlets The New York Times, Wired and GQ.
We’re proud to say that Bart and his team have been dedicated members of ECO-SYSTM for over a year and a half now. He really appreciated the friendly environment along with all the various nooks and crannies available for interesting conversations. He’s also happy to see the space growing into such a mature community.
The feeling is is mutual, Bart! Having these guys around the office has been a real pleasure, especially when our members and staff want to talk politics, which let’s be real, is just about every day right now!
