Secure Wallet Update: More than 600 ERC20 Tokens Now Available!
The ECOMI team have continued their stellar start to 2019, and we can now happily announce that we have integrated ERC20 token support to the Secure Wallet! You now have the option to add your own tokens that run on the Ethereum platform, and with more than 600 to choose from you can rest a little easier knowing your investments are now as safe as physically possible!
The update has been pushed to both Android and iOS app stores and should become available within the next week! With this in mind let’s take a look at the standard itself, before running through some instructions on how to add your tokens.
What’s the Big Deal About ERC20?
Thanks to the ICO boom of 2017, there are literally thousands of crypto-tokens on the market. This was largely due to the simplicity of using Ethereum to launch a token smart contract (ERC20) on the Ethereum platform. ERC20 formed one of the first standardized token protocols, and as such has spawned more than 1000 different tokens.
By incorporating the ERC20 protocol into the Secure Wallet firmware and ECOMI app, we have just drastically increased the usability of the hardware device. Couple this with the recent additions of multiple wallet support and pin-code security and the ECOMI ecosystem continues to provide the most user-friendly cold storage device available. So how do you add new tokens?
1. Update the ECOMI app
Keeping the ECOMI app updated isn’t just important for new token additions. It is the best way to ensure you are taking full advantage of the features offered. Start by updating the app in your app store for Android or iOS. Once you open the ECOMI app and pair your Secure Wallet (as you usually would) you will be prompted to update the firmware. This update happens via the Bluetooth connection, however, you may require your private key/recovery seed to restore your balances once the update is complete. You may also need to restart the app once complete.
2. Open your settings.
You can access the ECOMI settings by clicking the small gear icon, indicated by the blue circle in the image below (left). In the event that you have more than one Secure Wallet, select the one you wish to add tokens to, by selecting ‘manage’ as indicated in the image below (middle).
3. Adding your new tokens
As you may have noticed, from this screen you can also see if/when new firmware updates are available, as well as give you information about your current firmware version. However to add new tokens, simply hit ‘manage currencies’ as seen in the image above (right).
As with everything ECOMI, we have designed this process to be as intuitive and simple as possible. You have probably figured out by now that to add a new token, you begin by searching for your token name or 3-letter ticker symbol. Then, simply tap ‘add’ and you’re all done!
Your new tokens will now be available on the home screen, and you can begin sending your crypto-assets to them immediately. As with the previous tokens, you can create up to 5 individual accounts per token, and label them as you wish. If you ever want to remove a token from the home screen, simply re-visit the ‘manage currencies’ screen and tap the ‘X’ next to the token name to remove it (or visit our support page).
Please note: accounts with a non-zero balance cannot be removed. This is to ensure you don’t accidentally delete your assets!
Moreover, although there are over 1000 ERC20 tokens on the market, a large number of them are yet to be verified as legitimate. But don’t worry- there are 680 ERC20 tokens now available for your use! You’ll also notice in the app that each new token has a rating for verification purposes.
What’s Next for the Secure Wallet?
Thanks to the countless hours put in by our dev team, we are now in a position to continue rolling out features on the Secure Wallet and ECOMI app. We will soon have GoChain integration, allowing you to also add Go20 tokens (similar to ERC20 but on GoChain’s platform). This includes the OMI token when they are distributed!
Looking further down the line we will also add the Go721 standard for NFT’s and digital collectibles, as well as other large-cap tokens to be announced soon. Moreover, we are also looking to add hot wallet functionality to the ECOMI app- giving you more ways to access your tokens- as well as implementing exchange capabilities so you can seamlessly exchange your currencies, without ever leaving the app!
