Youtube’s Alternative Just Got Better

After Youtube betrayed it’s original mission of letting individuals create their own channels and be paid for their views, it moved in the direction of being a home for corporate media and its “Youtube TV” streaming service, many of their original content creators were either forced to use Patreon to make up for the income lost due to Youtube’s demonetization, or banned from the platform altogether.

BitChute was launched in 2017 as a solution to Youtube’s deplatforming of content creators. It uses WebTorrent file sharing technology to create a distributed network of content creators; instead of having to host videos in a central server, the videos are hosted by the uploader and shared across a peer-to-peer (P2P) network, meaning the bigger BitChute grows, the more efficient the system becomes. Not having to rely on advertising allows BitChute to leave content creators alone.

Unlike the Youtube/Patreon method in which fans have to leave Youtube and make donations to their favorite creators, BitChute’s monetization model is the ability for viewers to donate directly to their favorite creator right on the platform. With so many users still dependent on Patreon, BitChute included it in their options. New options include two cryptocurrency options, BitBacker and CoinPayments, as well as SubscribeStar.

Now, content creators have a platform not beholden to advertisers upon which they can receive donations from several alternative payment methods, free to choose whichever they prefer, and backup options if one of them decides to become a “moral authority.”
