Let’s Continue Learning Together!

In 2022, we focused on important ways to move to a more caring economy, one that wages life not war.

We explored new ratios to measure how well we’re really doing as individuals and as a society, beyond the GDP. We analyzed and organized around public banking. We looked at the benefits and practicalities of cooperative worker-owned businesses, and of shared equity in housing. We considered currency reform for the foundational benefits it could offer the economy, and new women’s leadership in a growing worker movement.

We and our allies also went beyond topic introductions towards deeper understanding of alternative solutions, and how to get there: We launched a second Learning Circle for deeper understanding and important action steps. (Think of a Learning Circle as an economic consciousness-raising group, a small, safe place to learn and support each other on unfamiliar ground.)

If you haven’t yet, please join our Giving Circle before the end of 2022 so AEOO can continue our important work for a more equitable economy. And if you’re already pledging a monthly gift, please consider doubling it this month with an additional one-time donation.

Our two Learning Circles on Public Banking have proved so successful that in 2023, we’ll be creating a facilitator guide to accompany a DIY kit of video-and-written learning tools. We seek to empower women to talk across race and class lines about how a public bank in their state or city could finance wider prosperity — to thrive, not just barely survive. To keep local dollars at home, instead of sending them off to Wall Street banks. To create more affordable student loans, affordable housing options, and small business loans to build up Main Street, especially for women and entrepreneurs of color.

To move this project ahead, AEOO is partnering in grant proposals with some of our alliance members, like Women’s International League for Peace & Freedom-US, Public Banking Institute, the California Public Banking Alliance and others. Economics is never easy, but it’s easier and more fun when you focus on a solution among friends.

And YOUR contribution could really fuel this project’s progress. Committed to a more just economy here in the U.S., we are counting on YOU to help us amplify women’s voices, including your own!

AEOO supporter Marybeth has pledged $100 to AEOO’s end of year campaign. She is challenging 22 others to match her gift.

Everything we’ve accomplished was made possible by the generosity of passionate people like you. Imagine how many more people we could empower with that kind of support.

Let’s find out together.

An Economy of Our Own Alliance
An Economy of Our Own Blog

Virginia Woolf said a woman needs a room of her own. We think women need an economy of their own, too.
