The very first workshop of our week in New-York was with Stéphane Elbaz, a French designer well known for the rebranding of The Intercept and his type design work such as the Geneo Family or PS Fournier. During the first part of the workshop he gave us some insights on his work such as his responsive grids, the design of The Intercept’s logo and his PS Fournier revival. The second part of the morning was dedicated to an activity for which Stéphane gave us some scanned zoomed letters. The first task was to reproduce it as faithfully as possible using tracing paper. We were then asked to simplify its shape and lastly to accentuate its features. The goal of the activity was to make us understand the process of a revival design. In fact, by giving us this step by step task, Stéphane wanted to enphasize the design approach of a revival wich consist of simplifying the shape and accentuating its features at the same time.

Thanks a lot Stéphane for the talk and the eye-opening workshop!
