Thomas Jockin and a friend at TypeThursday

During the ECV New York 2019 trip, we had the chance to meet Thomas Jockin, founder of TypeThursday.

Thomas Jockin is a talented type designer based in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. He has worked for a variety of clients : Google, Starbucks, Coca-Cola, Footlocker, Express, and more, many more. Thomas started his career at the New-york foundry Darden Studio - directed by Joshua Darden - where he stayed for three years. In 2011 he created his own foundry, and launched his first typeface Garçon Grotesque, followed by two more families: Azote and Ductus.

TypeThursday is a type design event that takes place at the Type Directors Club (TDC). It happens every month in the middle of Manhattan. The concept is to present some in-progress typefaces designs in front of an audience (mostly type lovers) to get some feedbacks in order to improve their letterforms.

We participated to this fun evening with drinks, snacks, and plenty of typography. The atmosphere was relaxed and the mood was pleasant. Some of us had the courage to share their work and got really good feedback from the audience. It helped them to understand what was good and what had to be worked on in order to improve their projects.
